  1. I have the avent one that is really good, the shops don't sell the proper avent steriliser crystals (citric acid) anymore though because it can be used to make drugs, so we have been using the boots steam steriliser crystals.
  2. Soap and hot water will do just fine. So will a common dishwasher that is in most kitchens. Unless your baby has a problem already, exposure to common household bacteria, dirt, etc. won't hurt him. There is even a medical theory that says that minimizing that exposure to dirt, grass, foods, etc. is the cause of the explosion of allergies in the last 20 years. A baby's immune system learns very early that pollen, etc. is normal, and nothing to get excited about. But if the kid doesn't get exposed, the immune system goes hyper when it encounters it later in life, and the kid is doomed to a life of sniffling. So while your intentions are good, let your baby crawl on the floor. Take him out on the grass. Get him exposed to pollen, sunlight, and so forth. Odds are that he will grow up strong and healthy. And you will save yourself the aggravation of having to to buy, carry, and use some expensive piece of gear that you don't need. Edit - the name of the theory is the "Hygiene Hypothesis". The first link below will show you more about it. The 2nd link will take you to a story on NPR about allergies. You should be able to listen to it there after about 3 PM today, according to the notes there. The guest on the show is Dr. Hugh Sampson, president of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
  3. I used the First Years electric steam sterilizer. All you need is 90 mls of water and 13 minutes and voila! You put the water on this heating plate and turn it on. The warming plate makes the water boil and it steams the bottles and kills bacteria in the process. It worked really well, I actually put it away because we are moving because I would still be using it.
  4. they arent necessary. bottles only need to be sterlized when you first get them, then you can wash in your dishwasher, top rack. getting a sterilizer is just a waste of money.
