Which bottle sterilizer do you recommend?
I am a first time mom and i am wondering if I'm using Dr. browns and The First Years Breastflow am i suppose to buy the same brand for the sterilizer or any sterilizer is good for all bottles and accessories.

- The microwave ones are convenient, I used Avent. It doesn't have to be the same brand.
- All I used was good old fashioned hot water and soap. Would wash with bottle brush first then soak in a sink of very hot water and soap for awhile and the rinse in hot water and set out to air dry. Worked for my three kids!
- No my sister is using the Dr Brown bottles and she is using the Avent sterilizer. I would recommend the Avent one.
- i washed my bottles and then boiled....i never wasted the money on buying a sterilizer.
- Well the best and the cheapest sterilizers are a pot of boiling water on the stover and/or a dishwasher. If you have either of those then you shouldn't have to worry about buying a bottle sterilizer plus it will leave you extra room in the kitchen. I had a microwavable one but found that a pot of boiling water worked better! Good luck!!
- We never sterilized a thing for both kids. Just washed them by hand like most people.
- dont waste your money on a bottle sterilizer, you boil them in a pot of water, ive also read that if you place them in the dishwasher alone and set to heat dry it is the same thing, not sure though. i dont know though as i breast feed so i dont have to clean bottles. :"
- The Tommee Tippee Digital Steam sterilizer. It's quick and easy and it fits the wide neck bottles like Dr. Browns. Hope it helps. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu_RYEqZG_X8AXilXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE4bXY0cG12BHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMQRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA0Y3NTRfNzIEbANXUzE-/SIG=14nl8hg51/EXP=1185375192/**http%3a//www.babylanddirect.co.uk/shop/6_shop_by_manufacturer/86_tommee_tippee/516_tommee_tippee_closer_to_nature_slow_flow_teats.php
- I liked the avent one.
- I just used a nice sized pot and some boiling water. Why spend money on a "bottle sterilizer" when you already have pots/pans and tap water that do the exact same thing? Just a suggestion.
- Just put them in a pot of boiling water for 10 minutes. Simple. That's what we do. No need for fancy expensive equipment. We found that keeping breast milk in bottles, it talks a long time to thaw. We, I, being the dad who uses them, prefers Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags. They thaw almost instantly when put into warm water (from a frozen state) as opposed to the bottled milk which takes a good 20 minutes, which is no fun if I'm in a rush with a screaming baby who woke up early etc.
- I actually just read an article on baby sterilization. It said the names of such convience items are misleading. In order to truly sterilize a bottle, it needs to be done without milk or formula and the items to be sterilized must be completely immersed in boiling water for 10 minutes to be effective. All the sterilizers do it steam clean the bottles and kill the less resistant germs. It actually said with the quality of water in the US that sterilization isn't neccessary. Looking back, I realize I've never truly sterilized my daughters bottles properly because I let them float in the boiling water but for only 3 minutes at a time. My daughter has had one earache in 7 mo. and we haven't been boiling bottles in almost 4 months now. So I believe it isn't truly neccessary. Keep in mind that nipples will wear out faster as well when boiled a lot. And you can lay a dish towel on top of the boiling water when the bottles are in place, this will keep them immersed, but you should also place a towel on the bottom to keep the bottles from constant contact with the pan, this can melt them. At three months we started using dawn dish foam on her bottles w/ the parents choice bottle brush, it rinses real clean and she hasn't really been sick or even had the runs so it works well :D Good luck!
