sterilizers?

I was wondering from all you parents which method of sterilization did you find best for your baby's bottles? I have looked into the Avent steam sterilizer, as we have bought Avent bottles, but I have been told the microwave one is best. What do you think?? Also, do you think I should buy a wardrobe or a chest of drawers to put my baby's clothes in? I know if i bought a wardrobe her clothes will grow to fit eventually lol as they will look tiny in there, but Im worried about space and them being folded in drawers. What did you all use?? ty

  1. i have always used an avent steam stereliser the plug in types and i use drawers for clothes
  2. I always boiled the bottles on the stove. Boiling water will kill everything. I used a chest of drawers with lots of drawers. There are so many different things to be put in there, it seems no matter how many drawers you have, it still isn't enough.
  3. i just boil the bottles. i wouldn't trust the microwave, personally. also, i'd toss out the bottles for new ones at most, every 5 months. i suppose you could just keep sterilizing but they just don't seem as clean to me after a while. but whatever try a wardrobe WITH drawers ^_^ for in fant clothes i'd use the drawers, but as they get bigger, hanging clothes up would be better. just my opinion
  4. Hiya babe, We've just bought the Avent Steam sterilizer. After looking into them all (I know how sad that must sound lol) I heard that the chemicals or whatever in microwaves aren't good so that sorta put me off the idea. We've also just bought a wardrobe with drawers at the bottom for our wee one's clothes. Its packed already and he's not even here yet lol x
  5. For my last two babies I have used microwave steriliser as they are the quickest. How about a short wardrobe with a couple of drawers underneath?
  6. Congratulations btw! For my two kids I bought a boots steam sterilizer and bottles. You could fit more bottles into it than an advent (also cheaper) and there was a handy tray at the top for necks and teats for bottles. For clothes we used a wardrobe with 3 drawers at the bottom which was great when they grew up a bit but I have to say for newborn clothes the drawers are best.
  7. I simply used a large pot on the stove to sterilize my baby's bottles! Nothing fancy or bought extra. I washed the bottles in the sink like anything else, put the bottles in one large pan, filled with water, and boiled. Same for nipples, caps, and pacifiers, but in a separate smaller pan for less time. I also boiled tap water to use in her bottle prep, as I used powder formula. For her clothes, I use a regular dresser, but it has a changing table on top. The dresser top lifts up and slides behind the dresser to expose the changing table part. I don't use that though, so it's just like a regular dresser.
  8. We use the avent steriliser, they don't cost much for the amount you use it (8 months on and we still use it 3-4 times a day) Plus we have a baby corner with all her things to keep them seperate, i'd find it a faff using the microwave. We have a wardrobe and chest of drawers for her nursery and i find the wardrobe much more convienient. The clothes get creased or lost at the back in the drawers, in the wardrobe i can see everything so she gets to wear all her outfits before growing out of them.I only use the drawers for sleepsuits and vests, her pretty clothes go in the wardrobe, although we could do with another wardrobe at the mo lol
  9. I used a steam steriliser with both my babies and I had no problems with them, I thought they worked really well. For the clothes when they were babies I kept their clothes in one of those flat plastic storage boxes which I kept under the cot - you can get ones with little air vents. Once they were older and were wearing bigger clothes I got them a small wardrobe each.
  10. mircowave everytime
